  • There are two Class D patching pay items but no schedule. Are these just contingency items for use after the HMA surface removal?
    Yes. (09/13/2023)

  • Plans show temp pavement being installed on the shoulder of Airport Road in the Stage 1 construction area, but no quantities for that pavement to be removed. Is the intent for that temp pavement to remain?
Yes - the temporary pavement constructed on the left shoulder shall remain. The finished surface of the temporary left shoulder pavement constructed in Stage 1 will be 1.5" below the final profile. After completion of Stage 2 construction, the temporary shoulder pavement will be overlaid in the Final Stage with the top surface course lift. (09/13/2023)

  • Can IDOT please post the available soils reports for the contract?
The Structural Geotechnical Report for the project is online with the plans and specifications under ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. (09/13/2023)

  • How is the excavation from existing grade to bottom of slopewall paid?
Per the Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction, excavation, backfilling, and disposal of surplus material is included in the contract unit price per square yard for Slope Wall 4 inch. It should be noted that the existing ground slope inside the vaulted abutments is 1:2 and approximates the proposed top of slopewall (see existing bridge plans included in bid plan set). (09/13/2023)

  • The special provisions require the temporary barrier wall on I-474 to be removed prior to the 2024 winter shutdown and re-installed in 2025. Neither the plan quantity for Temporary Barrier Wall or Temporary Barrier Wall Relocate covers these operations. Is this considered incidental to the bid item quantity shown in the schedule of values?
Quantity was added to relocate temp concrete barrier twice on EB shoulder Sta 282+90 to Sta 285+65 (275') and twice on WB shoulder Sta 283+20 to Sta 282+287+20 (400'). The TCB will be needed to protect the abutments on each end, therefore the following portion of Working Restrictions & Traffic Control / Staging Notes No. 7 can be ignored unless deemed necessary: "...and have traffic control barrier removed off of State R.O.W. and moved to a State-owned location approved by the Engineer" An addendum will be issued to address this. (09/12/2023)

  • There is a pay item for both longitudinal joint sealant and HMA surface removal special. Please clarify the intent since they are normally not used together.
The pay item 40600370 LONGITUDINAL JOINT SEALANT will be deleted by addendum. (09/01/2023)

  • Sheet 98 of the plans shows the end to end parapet length as 249'-11 3/4". The Parapet Rail layout on the same sheet totals 267.97' across the parapet. Can a correct post layout be provided?
An addendum will be issued to address this. (09/01/2023)

  • Is it IDOT's intent to use SPBGR Type A w/6.75' posts per the Standard in the plans, in lieu of the MWGR Type A 6ft. posts pay item?
The Schedule and Pay Item in the plan set are for the 6' post and are correct. Standard 6300001-12 for guardrail with the 6' post should be used & will be added to the plans by addendum. (09/01/2023)

  • Will the striping need to be replaced when beam movements are done on 474. Plans call for closure to be switched over.
Sheet 58 of the plans depicts the traffic pattern while beam erection towers are in place within the EB & WB passing lanes for the setting of beams in the center median on the new pier. The towers will be protected by barrier wall. This configuration is anticipated to remain in place for approximately one week per direction per stage. Notes 10 & 11 of the Working Restrictions & Traffic Control / Staging Notes included in the Traffic Control Plan within the Special Provisions define the restrictions and allowances related to this closure. After beams are set, the traffic control on I-74 shall be switched back to it's previous configuration, therefore the temporary pavement marking, type IV tape will need to be reconfigured accordingly. (08/31/2023)

  • Temporary rumble strips Item 70106700 has a quantity of 8. This item will be used up to 28 times. Will there only be 1 set per lane per night. Can there be spec included what does portable description mean plan page 63.
The Temporary Rumble Strips quantity of 8 are for Airport Road - 4 are placed in stage 1, removed in winter before the first snow fall and then placed again in the spring. These rumble strips are covered by the Standard Specifications. Also shown in the plans are Temporary Portable Rumble Strips for use on I-474 ahead of the full closure and detour for beam removal and replacement. The costs of the Highway TC&P Standards including these Temporary Portable rumble Strips are considered included in the cost of the Traffic Control and Protection (Special) item as written in the Traffic Control and Protection (Special) special provision. (08/25/2023)

  • How does the pavement marking removal get paid for. the reference to black tape where will that be used?

All other temporary pavement marking and pavement marking blackout tape used to cover conflicting pavement markings shall be type IV tape. Temporary Pavement Marking and Pavement Marking Blackout Tape, and their removal, will not be paid separately but shall be considered as included in the cost of the Traffic Control and Protection (Special) pay item. See Special Provision for Traffic Control and Protection (Special). (08/25/2023)
