  • Structure 015-0060: Existing tangent terminal at Station 88+30 RT has several posts cored through the concrete outlet. This is unusual to block the outlet with guardrail posts. Please advise how the new tangent terminal will be installed at this location.
    The project should be bid according to the Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction, Highway Standards, and the plans and specifications available online. (04/18/2024)

  • The responses to TBT 6 Modified questions do NOT provide a vision for what IDOT is looking for. Guardrail installation companies are NOT designers of safety systems. The existing TBT 6’s are currently attached directly to F-Shape barriers as they are expected to be attached. Q: Complying with current IDOT TBT 6 Std, if it’s not a direct attachment to F-Shape or a Constant Slope Connector, what will an acceptable ‘crash worthy’ modification/attachment look like? Please provide a detail.

  • Standard Traf Bar Term Type 6 do not use a connector plate with F-shape parapets. Due to liability reasons and also the need to submit a detail to fabricators for a quote for the modified connector plate and modified end shoes, does IDOT have detailed drawings for these?

  • Short Radius Guardrail: Special Provision page 6 calls our SR to be constructed according to Guardrail Type A (IDOT's Std 630001) however Plan Sheet 33 calls out radius guardrail with Wood Posts + TBT 2 (631011) incorporated within the radius. Please confirm, will the Short Radius be constructed with IDOT Std 630001 GR A with the radii noted in plans or exclusively per the word description noted on plan sheet 33?
    As according to Article 105.05 Coordination of the Contract Documents. The documents included in the contract are intended to be complementary and to describe a complete work. If the Department determines a conflict exists between the contract documents, the following hierarchy will be applied, and the Contractor shall then complete the work according to the interpretation made by the Department.   • TBT 6 Modified: Special Provision page 8 calls out modification to the end shoe and its attachment to the F-Shape barrier wall. TBT 6 attachment to F-Shape barrier walls occur routinely, without modification. What is modified about the end shoe? Please provide a detail illustrating the modification and what you would like this connection to look like when installed, as it is not addressed in any IDOT Std and is not obvious.
    The contractor is responsible to conduct a site visit to determine the modifications needed to match the slope and shape of the F-shape parapet. (04/15/2024)

  • Regarding the Special Provision rot Traf Bar Term Type 6 on page 8, the connector plate is intended for constant slope parapets. IDOT Standard used to have a tapered wood wedge to go between the end shoe and the F-shaped parapet. Would the wood wedge be acceptable in lieu of a modified connector plate?
    A wood wedge would not be an acceptable alternative to a modified connector plate. (04/03/2024)

  • It appears the quantities for the short term pavement marking and removal are based on temporary pavement marking and there are no temporary pay items. It also appears that the removal is counted on multiple layers. Could you verify the quantities?
