Contract Specifics
A voluntary pre-bid meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at 09:00 AM in the under the Ohio Street east approach Bridge, SN 016-1053, on Kingsbury Street. Location Notes - Gather at the meeting location at 9 AM. The site visit begins promptly at 9:30 AM and ends at 11:30. Meeting Description - The purpose of this meeting is to view the areas to be repaired on the Ohio Street Bascule Bridge over the North Branch of the Chicago River.  Any Contractor arriving after the 9:30 AM start time will not be allowed to participate in the site visit.  No project information will be transmitted, and no questions will be answered during the site visit.

  • For SN: 016-0202, can a breakdown of the quantities for STRUCTURAL STEEL REMOVAL, STRUCTURAL STEEL REPAIR, AND FURN & ERECT STEEL be provided? Perhaps a bill of materials for sheets SB-17 to SB-26.
    The project should be bid according to the Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction, Highway Standards, and the plans and specifications available online. (04/18/2024)

  • Addendum A just issued a revised plan sheet (sheet 4 of 201), in which pay item 66901006 is now listed with a unit of "CAL MO". The pay item report has that pay item as CAL DAY. Please advise if this pay item is to be calendar day or month?
    Pay item 66901006 is correct and is paid for as CAL DAY. The Item should be bid as it is listed in the Schedule of Prices on eBids. (04/17/2024)

  • Plan sheets for 016-0202, call for a BRIDGE DECK THIN POLYMER OVERLAY 1/4" pay item. However, the contract pay item calls for 3/8" thick. Please confirm the thickness of Thin Polymer Overlay to be placed at.
    The pay item listed in the Schedule of Prices and on the SOQ sheets, BRIDGE DECK THIN POLYMER OVERLAY 3/8" is correct and should be utilized. (04/17/2024)

  • In the General Notes it states that all holes shall be subpunched or subdrilled 11/16" dia. (then reamed) for 3/4" bolts and 13/16" dia. (then reamed) for 7/8" bolts. This is typically not done on projects, and it will require the contractor to perform an inordinate amount of reaming. Can standard holes 13/16" be put in the new steel for 3/4" bolts and 15/16" holes for 7/8" bolts?
    Where new steel is proposed to line up with holes in existing steel, General Note applies. (04/17/2024)

  • For the bottom chord removal and replacement for Floorbeam 0-0 and 12-12 on the bascule bridge, does this work require a full detour (dead load only)? If so, can an extended detour (over the time called for in the specs.) be given?
    The full detour shall be per the contract specification “keeping the expressway open to traffic (D1)”. Any extended hour requests shall be per the Detour note on plan sheet 18. (04/17/2024)

  • On Sheet 121 and 122, the drawings show to remove and replace the bottom chord angle for Floorbeam 0-0 and 12-12 trusses. Is a temporary strut or any shoring required in order to perform this removal and replacement? If so, can detail be provided?
    It is the Contractor's responsibility to determine means and methods of performing repairs. (04/17/2024)

  • What is the impact attenuator width that should be used and what type of transition? Can we mount the transition directly on the pier median or will there be a concrete build out to be able to bolt the transition to?
    The Impact Attenuators (Fully Redirective, Narrow), Test Level 3 shall be on the IDOT materials approved list and shall be installed per manufacturer’s recommendations for this type of application. The attenuator shall be similar in dimensions to the existing attenuator being removed. No concrete buildout is proposed. (04/17/2024)

  • Please confirm the thickness of the THIN POLYMER OVERLAY REMOVAL. Is the intent to remove the existing polymer to the top of the steel grid?
    Removal of existing polymer should be to the top of the steel grid. See note on page 107 (DECK PLAN) “Existing 3" Concrete Filled Steel Roadway Grid with ¼” Overlay. (04/15/2024)

  • Please consider moving this project to the June 2024 Letting. There are various large projects bidding throughout the Chicagoland Area that do not time out well with this April Letting date.

  • Are there any soil borings available? Specifically where the Temporary Soil Retention System is located.

  • Will the parking lots under the East and West Approach Spans be closed during construction to allow access to the work to the substructure?
    These areas will not be fully closed at all times. The Contractor shall coordinate with the Engineer and the occupants for work to be performed in and/or above the parking areas (04/11/2024)

  • On SN 016-0202, on the fixed deck spans, is the intent to do the concrete removal and concrete superstructure placement first, then do the 3/4" scarification and 2 3/4" Latex Overlay.
