  • is loads on sheet 57 of 78 of plans are factored or unfactored loads. The notes in question - horizontal force of 6.6 kips/ft. of abutment, footing’s bearing pressure surcharge to 4.6 ksf and horizontal sliding force of 1.8 kips/ft. of abutment.” Per AASHTO, section 11.10.11, the bearing resistance is limited to 4 ksf for the service limit state and 7 ksf for the strength limit state.
The loads noted are service (unfactored) loads. Refer to our response to 003-61L19 #1, and to Addendum #1 for a revised note. Refer to our response to 003-61L19 #10 for the second part of this question. (09/09/2025)

  • Please clarify if horizontal forces and bearing surcharge from the spread footing are factored or service. Thank you.
The loads noted are service loads. An addendum will be issued to revise sheet 57. (09/09/2025)

  • Please provide the geotechnical report(s) for the project. Also please clarify whether the stated horizontal forces and bearing surcharge from the spread footing are factored or service loads.
See Available Reports Special Provision located on page 68. (09/09/2025)

  • Can you confirm what areas need clearing and grubbing? Is it only for stumps 6 inches and smaller? The plans show that trees 6 inches and smaller fall under earth excavation, not clearing and grubbing. Can you clarify?
Refer to the Special Provision for Clearing and Grubbing. This work shall include the necessary of clearing and grubbing within the project limits and existing right-of-way as necessary. Trees and brush less than 6 inch in diameter shall be included with this pay item not earth excavation. (09/09/2025)

  • please provide elevation at the top of rail” for each wall that we are to use to determine where the 12’-0” above top of rail limit is.
    Please see responses to 003-61L19 #2 and 003-61L19 #7. (09/04/2025)

  • The contract plans show a 2’-6” thick precast MSE panel to be used “within 50’-0” of Track 1 or Track 2” and “to a height of at least 12’-0” above the top of rail.” It is unclear exactly what parts of the MSE walls lie within 50’ of either track and what the elevation for the “12’-0” above top of rail” is. Please provide the limits of the 2’-6” thick panels on both the west and east MSE wall elevations (where are the limits that are within 50’ of tracks 1 and 2).
The 2’-6” thick wall for the West MSE would be required within these approximate limits: - Top of Rail Elevation is approximately 591.93, so the top of 2’-6” thick wall would be at least to elevation 603.93. - The portions of the wall include the 117’-10” parallel section of wall plus approximately 5.5’ of the northwest and southwest wings. The 2’-6” thick wall for the East MSE would be required within these approximate limits: - Top of Rail Elevation is approximately 591.67, so the top of 2’-6” thick wall would be at least to elevation 603.67. - The portions of the wall include the 117’-10” parallel section of wall plus approximately 12.5’ of the northeast and southeast wings. (09/04/2025)

  • The driven shell piles for the east abutment line up directly below the ComEd powerlines. What is the elevation of these lines? Will these powerline be temporarily relocated for pile driving operations?
This overhead line is identified as “Watch and Protect” in the Status of Utilities special provision. We do not have an elevation from the existing pavement to the line. The Contractor should call 1-800-EDISON-1 to get the lines protected during construction. (09/04/2025)

  • What is the depth of the HMA Base Course? There are conflicting depths in the plans.
The proposed HMA Base Course thickness shall be 6-1/4” as shown in the proposed typical sections and HMA mixture table. (09/02/2025)

  • Are the existing bridge drawings available? If so, please provide them.
See AVAILABLE REPORTS special provision located on page 68 of the proposal. (09/02/2025)

  • what is the distance between track 1 and track 2 to the MSE wall? is it less than 50'
The distance from the west track to the west MSE wall is 46'-2", and from the east track to the east MSE wall is 41'-3". (09/02/2025)

  • as per sheet 57 of the contract drawings, the panels shall be 2'-6" to a height of 12' above the top of rail. Please provide the top of rail elevation to be used as the criteria to determine the height to which 2'-6" panels are to be used for both the east and west wall
The top of rail elevations to be used are: 591.93 (West MSE wall) and 591.67 (East MSE wall). (09/02/2025)

  • please provide a copy of the geotechnical engineering report for the MSE walls at the bridge 049-8001
See 'Available Reports' special provision located on page 68. (08/28/2025)
