Bulletin Description

The proposed improvement consists of bridge deck replacement of the structures carrying IL 120 over Des Plaines River. Also includes bridge overlay and substructure repairs of the structures carrying Belvidere Road Tributary over IL 120 and IL 120 NW ramp at IL 21. It also includes minor substructure repair and riprap placement at IL 21 over Belvidere Road tributary. The project is in the Village of Gurnee in Lake County. Total gross length and net length 1033 (0.2 Mile) and 625 Feet (0.12 Mile).

  • On plan sheet NO 3 . Note 25 states upon removal of protective shielding, every bolt hole shall be inspected for the presence of cracks. If cracks are not found, all holes will be redrilled/reamed and filled with bolts. What bolts are you referring?
    All bolts used for the installation of the permanent protective shielding over the pathway at east end of the bridges. (11/08/2023)

  • Drawing SD-10, Bar Mark a8e in the Superstructure shows heads on the shape drawing. Is this correct? They are field cut bars.
    The headed bar under shape column for the bar mark a8(E) on sheet SD-10 is not correct. These are field cut, straight, transverse bars. The Department is in the process of issuing an addendum, please monitor the website for the addendum. (11/06/2023)

  • Sheet 76. Span 3 WB has the far East scupper draining onto the slope wall which then drains across the LCFPD Des Plaines trail. Since it cannot be eliminated can a drain pipe be added so the trail is not flooded?
    We ran the analysis and determined that 5 scuppers will suffice on the structure. Therefore, we can eliminate the far east scupper on the Westbound bridge, and no reconfiguring of the remaining scuppers is necessary.   • Sheet 108. Is this sheet for the West Abutment not the East abutment?

  • Sheet 76. Span 3 WB has 2 scuppers draining next to the LCFPD Des Plaines trail, while the Span 3 EB structure has no scuppers. Can the 2 scuppers in span 3 be eliminated?
    The scuppers cannot be eliminated. Westbound structure (SN 049-0047) receives more scuppers due to the presence of the narrow shoulder. (10/30/2023)

  • Sheet 100. Is this sheet for the West Abutment not the East Abutment?
    The sheet 100 is for west abutment of Westbound bridge. Type II elastomeric bearings are used at west abutment for both structures (Eastbound SN 049-0046 and Westbound SN 049-0047). (10/30/2023)

  • Sheet 76. The bill of material has 1 stream gauge but no called out work. Is there any work required for the stream gauge?
    Stream Gauge work should not be included in this contract. An addendum will be issued to remove this pay item and quantity. Per note 24 of the General Note on Sheet 3, the contractor shall contact USGS and coordinate relocation of the stream gauge. (10/30/2023)

  • What traffic control is required to keep the LCFP Des Plaines trail open during construction?
    The LCFP Des Plaines trail runs under the east side of both structures and will not be impacted, and no traffic control is needed. Existing Protective Shielding that is currently in place over the pathway is timber shielding. The existing shielding will be removed, and new protective shielding will be placed for the entire bridge span for construction. After construction protective shielding will be removed. For clarity, a note will be added to the General Notes stating protective shielding shall remain in place throughout the entirety of the construction." (10/30/2023)
