Ask Subscribe Questions and Answers (10 Submitted / 10 Answered ) Questions not accepted as of November 07, 2023 04:30 PM.

  • Could coordinates be provided for each of these structures?
The contractor should bid according to the Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction, Highway Standards, and the plans and specifications available online. (11/09/2023)

  • For the geopolymer thickness design calculation, depth of fill & groundwater levels have a large impact on the final design thickness. Will IDOT allow us to account for soil arching at 3 times the culvert diameter? And will the groundwater level be allowed to be zero since these culverts have been placed in fills under the roadways?
Design of the SAPL system is addressed in Spray Applied Pipe Liner special provision that is included in the special provisions posted online. The design report section of this special provision highlights the guidance on the design calculations. The contractor should bid according to the Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction, Highway Standards, and the plans and specifications available online. (11/03/2023)

  • 15 working days total for this project is not a realistic completion time for a project with this scope of work. Will you allow there to be 15 working days per culvert location?
An addendum will be posted to address this question. Please continue to monitor the website for an update. (11/03/2023)

  • Are the corrugations on the CMP required to be filled before the SAPL is installed at the designed thickness?
For any requirements necessary before the SAPL is installed, the contractor will need to follow the manufacturer's requirements in their design report. (11/03/2023)

  • For the culvert at Sta. 639+40, their is an existing poured concrete invert repair inside the culvert for the entire length of the culvert, except for about 15-20 feet at the west end where the dead tree broke it out of the flowline inside of the culvert. Does the intact concrete invert repair stay inside the culvert as it is and the geopolymer be applied over it?
The contractor will need to follow manufacturer's instructions regarding application over the invert repair. Any deformities that may affect the liner installation or its function will be accounted for in their design report that is to be submitted to the engineer prior to installation, as per the special provisions. (11/02/2023)

  • For the culvert at Sta. 639+40, is the poured concrete invert repair to be left in place and the geopolymer applied over it?
The geopolymer would only be lined on the inside of the CMP. The concrete headwall is a complete removal and replacement and the geopolymer won't be applied over it.. (11/01/2023)

  • For the culvert at Sta. 639+40, will IDOT be removing the dead tree that has been pushed into the culvert and the broken concrete invert repair that the tree broke out of the culvert?
IDOT is only replacing the damage to the west headwall at 639+00. If the east headwall is what is being asked about, it isn't a part of the project to fix or remove the broken concrete invert repair. If a tree needs to be removed from a culvert for the work to be accomplished, the contractor can inform the engineer, and IDOT will remove it. (11/01/2023)

  • Would shotcrete be acceptable for the spray applied liner?
Shotcrete would not meet this specification and therefore will not be allowed. (11/01/2023)

  • The specifications call for a spray applied liner using geopolymer materials, not CIPP as indicated in an earlier answer. Please confirm that spray applied liner with geopolymer materials is the intended product.
Spray applied liner with geopolymer materials is the intended product. (11/01/2023)

  • On sheet 2 of the plans, there is a note that says we cannot begin until tree removal has been completed by IDOT personnel. What areas of trees are they going to be clearing for this project?
In regards to the tree clearing, the intent is that the contractor will tell IDOT staff what they needed cleared in order to line the pipe culverts. IDOT will then clear out the area as needed for the work to progress. (11/01/2023)
