  • The temporary slab support system is calling out (on plan sheet #14) the 6'0" area between the barrier wall and the section of deck we are removing is what needs to be supported. Is the intent for the scope of this pay item to be a decking system to support the proposed concrete superstructure. This area would be supported as it always has been with the piers and abutments.
    The Temporary Slab Support system shall be used to support the existing concrete slab between the abutments and piers for the length of the structure adjacent to the removal area as shown on sheet #14. (10/30/2024)

  • The detail on plan sheet #13 for the "Deck Slab Repair (Partial)" is calling for 2-foot width removal on the deck and then also removing 2-foot width on the approach (1 1/2" HMA surface). Is the intent to use the pay item to place concrete for the entire width of the removal area
    Correct, the pay item Deck Slab Repair (Partial) shall be used to place a 2' width concrete "patch" on both sides of the joint. (10/30/2024)

  • With reference to the temporary slab support system: Will we be allowed to drill "thru" bolts into the piers and abutments outside the limits of the deck slab removal to mount lateral supports along the face of the pier and abutments
    All connections to existing structure/substructure will need to be designed by a Structural Engineer and are subject to IDOT Bureau of Bridges and Strutures review and approval. (10/30/2024)
