The plans and the Special Provisions state that Salvaged Rail Elements from Guardrail Removal may be used for the Retaining Wall, Spl. There is no Guardrail Removal on this project. Can acceptable Savaged Rail Elements from other previous IDOT projects be used for the Retaining Wall, Spl.?

The Retaining Wall Spl. detail on sheet 33 of the plans appears to show two rail elements in height. The wording makes it sound as if it is singular in rail height. Is it intended for the Retaining Wall, Spl. to be single or double rail in height?

The Retaining Wall, Special should be double rail in height (in most cases). It is dictated by the slopes. Please see the cross sections in the plans. There may be a few locations where only one rail height is warranted and will be dictated by slopes in the field. (07/17/2023)
