  • Due to the amount and density of vegetative material within the limits of construction (especially on the West side of IL-59) this material would need to be cleared and disposed of. In general not much earthwork is being done, but the entire area is shown to be final landscaped/restored with seeding (with the seedbed needing to be prepped for seeding). Please consider adding an item of work for "Clearing".
Clearing is part of this contract as described in Section 201 of the Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction. Section 201.01(a) - Clearing shall consist of the removal and disposal of all obstructions such as fences, walls, foundations, buildings, accumulations of rubbish of whatever nature and existing structures, the removal of which is not otherwise provided for in Article 501.07; all logs, shrubs, bushes, saplings, grass, weeds, other vegetation and stumps of a diameter less than 6 in. (150 mm). Section 201.03 - Removal of Obstructions and Other Materials. All items defined as clearing in Article 201.01(a) shall be removed and disposed of as required by these Specifications Section 201.10(a) - Method of Measurement. This work will be measured for payment as follows. Clearing will not be measured for payment. The contractor shall include the effort and cost for clearing in the bid in accordance with these Standard Specifications. (07/28/2023)

  • Based on the soil borings, it appears that for all drilled shafts (East & West Boardwalks and Overlooks A & D) permanent casing will be required. Please confirm that a "Permanent Casing" line item was not inadvertently omitted from the contract line-item list.
Per Section 6.5 on Page 35 of the Geotechnical Report, permanent casing was not specifically required, but one of several options presented to drill the shafts. Temporary casing, slurry or other methods approved by the Engineer could also be used and is considered as contractor means and methods. (07/27/2023)

  • Reference the Contract Plans, Sheet 39. Details provided indicate that the Scarborough receptacle by Landscape Forms is an acceptable product. The manufacturer indicates that they do not off a sign band on this product the way it is shown, only recycling signage. Another product, the Chase Park receptacle can have the band and the sign but isn't the style listed. Please confirm what model by Landscape Forms is acceptable.
An addendum will be issued. (07/25/2023)

  • Does IDOT or the Village of Streamwood have a detailed drawing for the pedestrian lighting system?
Please see Additional Information for pictures. (07/25/2023)

  • Plan Sheet 39 shows the concrete pads for the Receptacles. Is the AGG BASE COURSE, 4" part of the pay item qty or is that included in the PCC SIDEWALK, TYPE B?
Aggregate Base Course 4" was quantified separately for the concrete pads. (07/25/2023)

  • Can all of the available reports be posted on the IDOT website in lieu of each contractor have to requesting access to them from the Design Engineer?
Please contact the Design Engineer listed in the Available Reports special provision on page 16. (07/25/2023)

  • Plan Sheets 58 indicates that "Concrete drilled shaft and column shall be placed monolithically, without construction joints. With the soil conditions being what they are, it is very difficult to keep the drilled shaft hole open long enough to frame a column above ground. Please consider a construction joint in the columns at or near grade.
An addendum will be issued. (07/24/2023)

  • Will the Village of Streamwood accept an alternate by another pre-approved IDOT Vendor to the Luminaire, LED Special / Light Pole, Special?
No, please bid on the luminaire and light pole outlined in the plans and special provisions. (07/24/2023)

  • The Contract Plans (Sht 51) indicate that the Exist Aerial Lines (AT&T & ComEd) on either side of IL-59 are to be raised. The Contract Specifications (pg 2 & 3) states "Relocate to underground or raise overhead cable..." Please clarify what exactly will be done with these utilities as this will affect the bridge work (i.e. there will be a difference in the impact of overhead vs. underground lines in the bridge truss erection, deck concrete placement, etc.).
On the west side of IL 59, a new pole is being installed by AT&T just south of the creek and the aerial lines will be buried going south for the distance of 2 aerial spans. On the east side, ComEd is installing new poles and will be raising their lines to go over the proposed bridge. ComEd will temporarily take down their line during the truss erection to avoid any possible conflict. The remaining aerials by others are remaining at their current elevation and the truss will need to be set over the top of them. (07/21/2023)

  • Reference Sheet 59 in the Contract Plans - please clarify the significance of "Shaft Group No." (i.e. What is this referring to?).
The shafts were grouped based on total length. Due to soil properties and height of boardwalk, we varied the shafts into different groups instead of having one consistent shaft length. As a result, there are different length reinforcement needed for each shaft length. The group number corresponds to the sp and v bar number that will be used for that shaft.” (07/20/2023)

  • Please clarify the top rail and post material for the Steel Railing (Special). Steel pipe cannot be anodized. It must have a different finish.
The top rail and post material is steel and it should have a galvanized finish. An addendum will be issued. (07/19/2023)

  • Does the Village of Streamwood have a part number for the lights they would like installed per pay item "Pedestrian Bridge Lighting System" ( X0326672)
A particular part number will not be specified. The project should be bid according to the Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction, Highway Standards, and the plans and specifications published online. (07/14/2023)

  • Sheet 53 Steel truss cross sections: The 105' spans are shown with horizontal safety railing, however the 207' span cross section does not show safety railing. Please advise if safety railing will be mounted on the inside face of the 207'-span truss. If only the decorative fascia is desired on the main truss, does the fascia meet the minimum railing loading per AASHTO? What is the max span of the fascia? How is the fascia attached to the truss?
The cross section for the 207' truss includes a callout for the Stainless Steel Woven Wire Mess Fence. The fence is to be installed on the inside face of both sides of the truss and provides the safety for fall protection on the 207' truss. (07/14/2023)

  • Please provide all available reports noted on sheet 16 of the Special Provisions
The contact information is provided in the Available Reports special provision located on page 16 of the special provisions. (07/12/2023)
