Bulletin Description

Project covers 14 miles along I-94 from Montrose Ave to Lake Cook Rd and 3 mile along US Route 41 from Lake Cook Rd to Park Ave. Improvements are within 8 separate cities and villages within Cook and Lake counties from Chicago to Highland Park. Project involves replacing the surveillance vehicle detection system, ramp metering system, 6 sign structures and installing wrong way detection system. Connection to fiberoptic system and network integration is also included.

  • Electrical Work IDOT Building E Special Provision do not provide any quantities for either fiber optic transceivers. Please advise.

  • The special provisions for Electrical Work, IDOT Building E gives a list with quantities for the optic transceivers that are required, but the quantities are listed as XX. Can the State provide the required quantities?

  • The installation of the 12F cable seems to alternate between 1-1/4" innerduct and 2" microduct. Is it the State's intention to also alternate between standard fiber and microfiber for this job?
    The 12F strand fiber shall be micro fiber. (09/11/2024)

  • The specification for the Active Wrong Way Detection System specifies the use of a microwave radar unit for detection. Would the state allow a video-based detection system in lieu of microwave radar?
    The Department would consider a state-of-the-art video-based detection system in lieu of a radar and thermal camera unit for vehicle detection. This approved modification does not alter the accuracy expectations, warranty requirements and testing requirements outlined in the specifications. (09/11/2024)

  • x0325489 - Controller, Linux ATC - Are these controllers being installed in the proposed 334 cabinets? If so, why is the 19" open frame rack part of the pay item?
    The Controller Linux ATC will be installed inside the proposed 334 type cabinet for the ramp metering cabinet. There are 15 ramp metering 334 cabinets that will have the Controller Linux ATC. There is one surveillance 334 type cabinet that will not have the Controller Linux ATC. (09/11/2024)

  • 1. Wrong-way vehicle detection systems utilizing radar for detection have a propensity to produce excessive false positive alerts. Will the Department consider technologies other than radar? If so, will the Department consider a thermal sensor? LiDAR sensor? Optical sensor?

  • TAPCO's Wrong Way Detection Systems are now Powered by Bosch utilizing the DINION 7100i IR for visual detection. This sensor allows TAPCO to have 99% accuracy and reduces false detection to 0. I can gladly make more information available to whom needs it for review. Would IDOT consider a Bosch Camera for Visual Detection as a method in place of Radar or Thermal?
    Bosch camera as a method of visual detection will be acceptable. (09/11/2024)

  • X0323917 CABINET, MODEL 334 - What wall thickness is required?
    The thickness of the cabinet shall be 3/16" (.188 inch) thick, minimum. (09/10/2024)

  • Can the State quantify the number of lighting controllers and associated light poles that will be the Contractor's responsibility to maintain under item Z0033028 Maintenance of Lighting System?
    IDOT D1 does not quantity the number of controllers or associated light poles or circuits the contractor will have to maintain. Under the Maintenance of Lighting System special provisions, extent of maintenance, partial maintenance or full maintenance, there is a 40% rule that applies. Contract will have to bid based on the 40% of the circuits if affected or not. (09/10/2024)

  • Will there be a Trailer Mounted Speed Display Sign ITEM added to this project. How will they be paid for.
    Per the Speed Display Trailer (D1) special provision, "Speed Display Trailer will NOT be paid for by a separate pay item, but its costs shall be included in the contract unit price of the various traffic control pay items." (09/06/2024)
