Bulletin Description

The work consists of building demolition for eleven (11) residential and/or commercial parcels and outbuildings. Each parcel removal will include removing any structure above and below the ground, including the main building frames, attached and detached buildings, facilities, and filling of basements, removal of fences, sidewalks and driveways, utilities, and trees within the parcels' limits. Interim grading and seeding. The project located in the City of Joliet, in the vicinity of FAI Route 80 (Interstate 80) and Des Plaines River.

  • Can backfill be recycled aggregate or does it need to be virgin ?
    Backfilling septic tanks should be soil in accordance with Code 905.40(f), Other backfills should follow Article 502.10 and approval of the engineer. (10/16/2025)

  • What type of material will be used to backfill the removed septic tanks & the removed foundations ?
    As stated in the “Removing Existing Septic Tank” Special Provision, the backfill material should be according to the Private Sewage Disposal Code 905.40(f): “f) Abandoned Treatment Units. Septic tanks, cesspools, pit privies, aerobic treatment plants and seepage pits that are no longer in use shall be completely pumped. The floor and walls shall be cracked or crumbled so that the tank will not hold water, and the tank shall be filled with sand or soil. If the tank is removed from the ground, the excavation shall be filled with soil.” For the removed foundation, backfill should be similar to the septic tank, and both need to be according to a material satisfactory to the Engineer.
