  • Can the installer qualification for precast concrete on page 68 of the specifications be removed? This limits the amount of subcontractors and potential DBE contractors as well.
    The installer qualification only applies to the Precast Architectural Concrete spec which is used for items such as the ornamental railing. The installer qualification does not apply to the precast arch. (07/26/2024)

  • PCI certified erector is a unusual certification for bridge erectors as most are AISC certified. Can this be requirement be waived?

  • Please reconsider the option to cast the arc in place.
    Precast concrete arch is proposed to optimize the construction schedule and provide high and uniform quality for this critical supporting structural member. Structural analysis was performed using precast concrete. Switching to cast-in-place will fundamentally change the structural performance of the bridge and require a new engineer of record.   • The DBE goal for this project is unusually high. Please reconsider the goal for this specific project.

  • The specification for "Concrete Finish" is not practical. Will IDOT consider revising the specification to allow for a standard IDOT approved mix for substructure and bridge deck and allow for custom mix with colorants for the sidewalk, parapet and handrail? Method to determine color by creating samples
    All concrete design mix follows IDOT Standard Specification Article 503 – see Note 10 on Sheet 34. Design strength for various members will vary per Sheet 33 requirements. (07/24/2024)

  • We have reached out to several manufacturers, and they tell us that the 3-1/2 x 5 mesh is not available with wood slats – it is only available with vinyl slats. Please confirm that vertical vinyl slats, as used on previous IDOT installations (by others), is acceptable.
    Vertical vinyl slats are acceptable if it is unavailable with wood slats. This should be confirmed with the Phase III engineer prior to installation. (07/24/2024)

  • The sight screen standard calls for the use of schedule 40 pipe (Type A as noted in 664001). Previous installations (done by others) were allowed to use Type B pipe, as noted in 664001. Please confirm that it will be acceptable to use Type B pipe, as noted in 664001, as the previous contracts allowed.
    The sight screen should be installed in accordance with IDOT Highway Standard 640001-01 and IDOT Standard Specification Section 640 with the posts meeting the material requirements. The post sizes are shown on Standard 640001-01 (9.11 lbs./ft). (07/24/2024)

  • The standard calls for galvanized strips to be installed diagonally. We have noticed on previous installations, that have called for this standard, that the final product (installed by others) does not have the galvanized slats installed. We question the need for the installation of these galvanized slats. Please confirm that the diagonal galvanized slats are not necessary, as allowed on previous projects.
    The project shall be bid according to the plans and specifications posted online. (07/24/2024)

  • Note 13 on sheet 34 details colored concrete specifications. Since this is all new concrete is colored concrete required?
    Colored concrete is required according to the plans and specifications posted online. The intent is to match the existing bridge as close as possible. See detailed concrete color and texture requirements in the specification “CONCRETE FINISH”. (07/19/2024)
