  • Just going through the plans and specs for the Vermillion County Airport project on the April letting and trying to make sure that all of the Unclassified Excavation is coming from the site. There is no breakdown in the plans showing where all of the excavation needed to fill in the proposed stockpile area. Page 39 of the specs states that “The quantity of unclassified excavation shall be measured for payment by the number of CY in its original position.” Does this mean that there are enough CY
    See Addendum A, which includes and Earthwork Summary Table to show cut and fill. No material will need to be imported from offsite to build the stockpile. Section 152-4.1a of the Special Provisions (Page 39) revised the Standard Specification to clarify that unclassified excavation is measured by the number of cubic yards in its original position, prior to disturbance. No, A typical section for the construction access road is not included in the plans, nor is there an estimated quantity of aggregate; the Contractor should estimate the quantity/cost for "AR150550 pay item name CONSTRUCTION ACCESS". See Section 105-1.1 of the Special Provisions. See the last sentence of the first paragraph of Section 105-1.5 in the specifications, for Remove Construction Access material removal requirements.   • Please confirm and include which P-209 Spec is required for this project?
    The “Standard Specifications for Construction of Airports”, State of Illinois, Department of Transportation, Division of Aeronautics, adopted March 22, 2023 shall govern the project except as otherwise noted in these Special Provisions. See section 209-2.3 of the specifications for Item 209 gradation requirements. (04/17/2025)

  • Page 63 of the plans shows either a guardrail or concrete barrier at the top of embankment in the typical detail. Will this be required for the stockpile area?

  • The 2023 Standard Airport specification seems to have a mistake in the tables that specify the Liquid AC grades. Page 218 (401) bases the AC grade on the layer location in the pavement structure while Page 284 (403) bases the AC grade on the Design Aircraft. Please clarify.
    The Asphalt Binder Selection tables on pages 218 and 284 are correct as shown. (04/16/2025)

  • The HMA Mix Table on Sheet 2 of 63 shows HMA Surface Mix (401) and HMA Binder Mix (403). This is shown as 2 items. However, this would be 3 items. There should be an item for the 401 surface with SBS PG70-28. There should also be an item for the 403 base with SBS PG70-28. There should also be an item for the 403 base with PG64-22 The 403 base with 2 different AC grades will need to be 2 different items because they will have 2 different unique IDs. Please clarify.
    Pay items AR403610, AS403610, and AS403630 correspond to the entirety of the base course as shown in the Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) Mixture Requirements Table in the plans. (04/16/2025)
