  • The special provisions for Type E Inlet Box, Standard 610001 indicate that the PCC slab is not required but will be part of the Pavement Connector for Bridge Approach Slab. Is the PCC slab required for the three (3) Type E Inlet Boxes that are in the HMA shoulders outside of the Pavement Connector limits?
    The PCC slab is required for the three Type E inlet boxes in the HMA shoulders per the highway standard. (06/04/2025)

  • Please Clarify...On Sheet 38 Bill of Materials there are listed Pay Items Furnish & Erect Structural Steel (LSUM) and Furnish & Erect Structural Steel (LBS). On sheet 47 the Cross Frame note say the Cost Included with Furnishing & Erecting Structural Steel. Which Pay Item of Furnish & Erect Structural does this pertain to? Sheets 72-74, the notes say new steel extensions are included with Furnish & Erect Structural Steel. Which Pay Item of Furnish & Erect Structural Steel does this pertain to?
    The cost of the cross frames detailed in the Pre-Stage Repairs on sheet 47 is included with Furnishing and Erecting Structural Steel (Pound). The cost of the steel extensions detailed on sheets 72-74 is included with Furnishing and Erecting Structural Steel (L. Sum). (06/04/2025)

  • The HMA mix table calls for 1-1/2" surface course; however, on sheet 11 of the plans the typical sections call for 168 to 255 LBS/SY. Please confirm which thickness is correct.

  • The Guardrail schedule and guardrail layout on plan sheet 33 lists a Traf Bar Term Ty 6 at the departure end of W.B. structure 074-0070. The structure General Plan sheet 37 calls for Traf Bar Term Ty 5A at departure end. Which is correct? If a Ty 5A is needed in lieu of a Ty 6, will the Type A quantity change since the Ty 5A is shorter than Ty 6?
    Type 6A is correct as shown in the Summary of Quantities, Guardrail Schedule & Guardrail Details. (05/22/2025)

  • Referencing the Furnish & Erect Structural Steel Item, will IDOT allow Metalizing with Type 1 Seal Coat, per IDOT's Metallizing Special Provision In lieu of Galvanized structural steel. The plate girders have thin flanges (3/4" thick) and web (7/16" thick) and when the girder is dipped in a galvanizing tank the girders are almost certain to warp which will result in extensive re-work for the steel fabricator.
    The project should be bid according to the Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction, Highway Standards, and the plans and specifications available online. (05/22/2025)
