A counterpoise conductor is not specified on this project and is not needed with the 2-inch duct nor the duct bank associated with the airfield lighting series circuits. There is no counterpoise specified for this project associated with the airfield lighting series circuits on the airfield. At the interior of the Airport Electrical Vault building, there are however #6 AWG equipment ground wires that are to be run from each constant current regulator output to the respective high voltage wireway containing airfield lighting series circuits. The #6 AWG copper equipment ground wires are to replace existing #8 AWG equipment ground wires to comply with are recent update in 2023 National Electrical Code 250.190(C) (1) “General” which notes “Equipment ground conductors that are not an integral part of a cable assembly shall not be smaller than 6 AWG Copper or 4 AWG aluminum or copper-clad aluminum.” Equipment ground wires shall be copper on this project. Phase 3 is limited to 14 calendar days in order to minimize impacts from construction on airport operations due to the required closure of Runways 12/30 and 6/24 during this phase. Phases 1 and 2 are not limited to specific calendar days since they will only impact one runway during each phase, but contractors shall minimize disruption of standard operating procedures for aeronautical activity by remaining within the prescribed staging, construction, and phasing areas presented on the construction safety and phasing plan sheets during all phases of construction.
