  • Will the bituminous material(fog seal) be applied before or after the chip seal?
The order of operation for mainline is chip seal, fog seal, then microsurfacing. They can fog seal the shoulders separately at any time, or at the same time as the mainline. In any case, we will need two applications of Short Term Pavement Marking on the shoulder. (01/11/2022)

  • In what order does the state want the chip seal, bituminous material(fog seal), and microsurfacing be applied to the mainline? If the fog seal is to be applied after the chip seal, will the state pay for an additional application of short term pavement marking on the shoulder?
There should be only one application of Temporary Pavement Marking on the shoulder. The mainline resurfacing and then followed with the fog seal on the shoulder should be done when that side of the pavement is shut down to traffic. (01/11/2022)

  • What is the maximum allowable length for a lane closure on this project?
The maximum allowable length on the job should follow the Standard Specifications of 3 miles. The length may be increased by the Engineer based on specific items of work, productivity, and impact to traffic. (01/11/2022)

  • The special provisions state that LOOSE GRAVEL and SPEED LIMIT 55 signs will be required every 2 miles. Will a LOOSE GRAVE sign with an advisory speed sign W13-1p be allowed. In past projects this has been acceptable, and some have required the full WORK ZONE, SPEED LIMIT, PHOTO ENFORCED, FINE MINIMUM signs setup. Please advise as to which will be required.
The W13-1P with the Loose Gravel sign may be allowed for this contract. The other signs highlighted below are included in the Highway Standards identified for this job. However, the contractor should be prepared to place non advisory 55 MPH signs as necessary according to the special provisions and standards. (01/04/2022)
