  • Sheet 33 shows for the guardrail to be anchored to the culvert. It is apart of the standard 63000001 pay item. How is this supposed to be anchored.
    The intentions for the guardrail locations on sheets 33 & 34 labeled “guardrail posts over culvert need to be anchored” was to include the pay item STRONG POST GUARDRAIL ATTACHED TO CULVERT. Please see attached Highway Standard and plan detail sheets for further information. It should be noted that plan quantities for Steel Plate Beam Guardrail, Type A include the lengths shown in the details which were not broken out at these locations. (06/05/2026)

  • In the Bid Price Schedule the unit of measure for Item #31100200 is cu yd. In the Summary of Quantities the unit of measure is ton for item #31100100. Which is correct?
    The Pay item on page 4 in the Summary of Quantities should be 31100100 Subbase Granular Material, Type A, Tons. #31100100 is correct. (06/05/2026)

  • Could you verify the the Schedule for Pay Items 64300260 & X6370101 is correct?
    The schedule on sheet 20 of the plans has the locations switched for pay items 64300260 & X6370101. The proposed impact attenuator shall be placed at approximately the same location and offset as the existing located from Sta. 746+43 to 746+65 The intent is to remove the concrete barrier wall and existing attenuator then resurface the dead lane and shoulder. The existing concrete barrier wall shall be replaced at this location but the distance from left edge of pavement shall be increased, creating more of a shy line offset. This distance shall be approved by the Engineer. The schedule on sheet 20 includes the type of attenuator to be used. (06/05/2026)

  • Can you clarify the HMA Ramp Schedule on page 10 of the plan set. The area calculations for ramp B appear to be incorrect affecting all the quantities for ramp B and the ramp D mix quantities appear way overstated.
    Errors were discovered in the calculations for both ramps B and D in the schedule on page 16 (not page 10) and page 18 of the plan set. See revised schedules on pages 16 and 18 of the plan set. (06/05/2026)

  • For the barrier wall remove and replace, is the contract to remove/dispose of existing and provide new barrier wall? Or is the contractor relocating existing barrier wall, salvage, and re-install existing barrier wall?
    The contractor will remove/relocate existing barrier wall, salvage and re-install the existing barrier wall. A new attenuator is provided in the plans. The schedule on sheet 20 of the plans has the locations switched for pay items 64300260 & X6370101.   • Can you please clarify how the shoulders are to be paid for? There is a hot-mix asphalt shoulder pay item and there is a HMA surface course IL-9.5FG, mix"D", N50 item. The quantities do not match tables in the plans.
    The shoulders on mainline and ramps shall be paid as follows where applicable. Bottom lift, typical legend #11 – HOT-MIX ASPHALT SHOULDERS, 4.25” = pay item 35501301 in the summary of quantities. This is to be milled and placed prior to resurfacing, Lower lift, typical legend #12 – HOT-MIX ASPHALT SHOULDERS BINDER = pay item 48203100 in the summary of quantities. Surface lift, typical legend #13 – HOT-MIX ASPJHALT SHOULDERS SURFACE = pay item 40604010 in the summary of quantities. The Emergency cross over includes 48203100 & 40604010 along with HMA base course, 10” Item 35501301 will not be utilized when adjacent to ramp that will not be resurfaced. The quantity on page 4 in the Summary of Quantities should be corrected as follows: 35501301 Hot-Mix Asphalt Base Course, 4.25” should be 54,954 SQ YD. 40604010 Hot-Mix Asphalt Surface Course, IL-9.5 FG, Mix “D”, N50 should be 6,594 TONS In the Sequence of Operations this pay item 35501301 is referred as " 4.25" base course" (06/05/2026)

  • The quantity for HMA surface removal 4 1/4 is 54,954sy and for HMA base course 79,133sy. Where does the extra base course get placed?
    The quantity on page 4 in the Summary of Quantities for 35501301 Hot-Mix Asphalt Base Course, 4.25” should be 54,954 SQ YD. (06/05/2026)

  • The schedule of quanties on page18 of the plans has Subbase Gran Mat A in tons and the pay item is in CY. Please state which is correct.
    The Pay item on page 4 in the Summary of Quantities should be 31100100 Subbase Granular Material, Type A, Tons. (06/05/2026)

  • Is joint trimming required on the ramps? I do not see a quantity listed for it in the schedule and if so is there a sequence of operations for them?
    Yes, joint trimming is required on the ramps. The quantity was inadvertently left out of the schedule. A sequence of operations was not provided for the ramps and should be determined by the contractor and approved by the Engineer. The 4’ shoulder on ramps should be paved monolithically with mainline ramp pavement unless determined unfeasible. (06/05/2026)

  • On ramp D from station 18+14 to 25+17 the plans call for 3/4" milling and 3 3/4" HMA. The existing HMA is already in the curb pan and is flush with the crossover pavement in this area. Also station 29+24 to 49+00 the plans call for 4.25" milling and 8" HMA on shoulders with no pavement overlay. Please clarify what is wanted in these areas.
    From approximate stations 18+14 to 25+17 on ramp D the pavement elevation will need to remain unchanged. The typical section should show milling 3 ¾” and placing 3 ¾” of HMA. From approximate stations 29+24 to 49+00 on ramp D where there is no pavement overlay, the shoulders should be milled 3 ¾” and HMA SHOULDER (Lower and Surface lifts) should be placed at 1.75” & 2” respectfully. A quantity for HMA Surface Removal 3.75” has been added to the SOQ. (06/05/2026)

  • Can the drawings for the culvert, between stations 748 and 749 and where guardrail is to cross it, be made available. Additionally, please advise on how guardrail is supposed to be attached to culvert.

  • X6320100 – Will a special provision for Guardrail Removal (Special) be provided?
    The pay item for Guardrail Removal should be 63200310 GUARDRAIL REMOVAL, not X6320100 GUARDRAIL REMOVAL (SPECIAL). The original intent was to use the special item and include removal of the erosion curb (board) and drainage structures. These items were subsequently broken out separately but the pay item wasn’t changed. (06/05/2026)

  • The work restriction special provision (SP) states that guardrail will need to be removed and reinstalled within 7 days, however the guardrail BDE SP is also included which states 3 days. Please confirm that the work restriction SP should take precedence over the BDE SP.
    Note #6 of the Working Restrictions & Traffic Control/Staging Notes special provision should be ignored and the BDE special provision entitled “GUARDRAIL” shall be followed. (06/05/2026)

  • On the Sequence of Operations sheet 40 of the plans, it states that guardrail installations shall be completed within the median during stage III. There is no median guardrail listed in the Guardrail Schedule or on plan sheets. Has some guardrail accidentally been omitted?
    There is no guardrail proposed to be installed in the median. (06/05/2026)

  • At Guardrail locations on sheets 33 & 34 of the plans, it states that GR Posts over culvert needs to be anchored. Typically there is a pay item for SPBGR Att To Culvert but there is no pay item or detail for attachment of posts in the plans. What is expected at these 2 locations?
