  • at 408+00 there's a culvert discharging water from the west side of Douglas Street that's under the proposed sidewalk with no plan for relocation. Can you address?
    The project should be bid according to the Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction, Highway Standards, plans, specifications, and addenda available online. (06/05/2026)

  • For the sidewalk pay items, can the sidewalk be saw cut instead of grooved?

  • Pipe Handrail: Special Provision indicates that "the base plates be placed in the concrete". This would be considered 'very unusual'. Please confirm that it will be acceptable to drill & epoxy set the anchors thru base plated posts attached to the surface of the concrete, which would be considered a customary installation method.

  • On the earthwork schedule on sheet 9, there's a note that says "trench backfill, storm sewer & structures, & dirt mound removal not included in above calculation." what dirt mounds are not accounted for in earth excavation and will additional earth excavation be measured for payment based on this?
    There are no dirt mounds anticipated on this project. (05/28/2026)

  • On Main Street from 408+00 to 415+00 the sidewalk is on the north side of the road where there's currently a ditch and then a 3:1 embankment going up to the north. Is the sidewalk going to function as the ditch now? Is the soil in the existing ditch suitable for placing embankment?
    The sidewalk shall be placed in the location shown on plans. Fore slope grading and subgrade improvements shall be included in the EARTH EXCAVATION Pay item. (05/28/2026)

  • At the intersection of US 40 and Randolph, on the SE quadrant, there is proposed sidewalk adjacent to a 24" box culvert. Where the sidewalk is to be placed, there will be an 8' vertical wall needed to keep the embankment for the sidewalk standing, or a box culvert extension needed. Can you address? approx. 25+15 on US 40 stations
    The contractor shall construct the sidewalk over the culvert and grade fore slope to top of pipe. There does not appear to be an 8' wall needed, when top of sidewalk to top of pipe is a difference of 2' - 2.5'. (05/28/2026)

  • There are no cross sections included with the plans, and no proposed contours or sidewalk profiles to determine grading of the sidewalk. Can cross sections be provided so the contractor can properly asses the earth excavation quantity?
    See typical sections on sheets 15 & 16. Cut/Fill volumes are shown on these sheets as well. Additional earth excavation calculations needed shall be done by the contractor. (05/28/2026)

  • Would you please provide a workable detail of the Pipe Handrail for this project? Saying that it must be in compliance with Section 509 and the Illinois Accessibility Code is not sufficient information to generate an accurate bid.
