Can all skewed stiffeners (including connection plate stiffeners) be chamfered? If chamfered, is it acceptable to reduce the 1/2" weld per AASHTO AWS D1.5 Annex B?

The connection plates would be allowed to be chamfered as may be allowed by IDOT BM 3.3.22-4 “Alternate Web Weld Detail”. The weld sizes shall be kept as shown in the plans. (12/31/2025)
Will IDOT please roll this bid for Item 161 - Contract 80C53 into the bid for Item 184 - Contract 62F94? It makes way more sense for the General Contractor bidding on Item 184 to procure this material directly along with the other items in 184. Eliminating the direct fabricator bid for Item 161 will also increase fabricator competition which will result in a lower overall cost to the Department. Thank you for considering this request.

These contracts will remain separate contracts. The contractor should bid according to the Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction, Highway Standards, and the plans and specifications available online. (12/17/2025)
