  • Q2: 701400/701406 is not even noted in plans, however, 701426 is. Am I to understand that 701426 is the required traffic control for any work on the expressway, regardless of how long the repair takes? Please clarify what happens if the repair takes more than an hour, which is quite possible, and how a different traffic control standard would be paid.
Traffic Control and Protection shall be included in the cost of the bid items as stated in the Special Provisions. The contractor should bid according to the Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction, Highway Standards, and the plans and specifications available online. (06/05/2023)

  • Q1: How is the traffic control determined on items that are not yet identified? Shouldn’t there be separate traffic control items for common repair applications? Example: Pay Items for 701301, 701422, 701606 and 701400/701406 (which is not even noted in plans) would cover most applications. If IDOT uses it then you pay for it…right? Eliminating ‘unquantified’ INCIDENTAL aspects of any contract will draw actual interest and bids from other bidders.
Traffic Control and Protection shall be included in the cost of the bid items as stated in the Special Provisions. The contractor should bid according to the Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction, Highway Standards, and the plans and specifications available online. (06/05/2023)

  • Current plans provide Partial Quantities with noted locations. Known locations certainly help to determine the required traffic control. This is a good thing that makes estimating more accurate. A win for the Owner and the contractor performing the work.
Traffic Control and Protection shall be included in the cost of the bid items as stated in the Special Provisions. The contractor should bid according to the Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction, Highway Standards, and the plans and specifications available online. (06/05/2023)

  • Q3: Plan sheet 5 calls out 1 Each Impact Attenuator (Non-Redirective) TL3. Plan sheet 12 provides a detail. The Special Provisions are silent in this pay item. What does this pay item include? Removal of existing system? Concrete pad? If this was not noted on plan sheet 5, how would anyone know how to bid this item.
The contractor should bid according to the Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction, Highway Standards, and the plans and specifications available online. The work should follow as shown in the detail shown in the plans and Section 643 of the Standard Specifications. (06/05/2023)
